They Call Him Scalito for a Reason
October 31, 2005
Statement from Kay Daly, president, Coalition for a Fair Judiciary on the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court:
The President has made an excellent choice today which reflects his commitment to appoint judges in the mold of Scalia and Thomas. Sam Alito, a Third Circuit Court of Appeals judge, has consistently embraced the original intent of the Constitution they call him Scalito for a reason. Because he is not the judicial activist of Ted Kennedy s dreams, and has demonstrated the judicial restraint that is the stuff of Chuck Schumer s nightmares, there is no doubt that those who are beholden to extreme leftist groups might reject the notion of an orderly process and a fair up or down vote. Let us hope that those who are beholden to extreme leftist groups will rise above the lure of campaign donations to enthusiastically approve this distinguished jurist. Sam Alito deserves a fair up-or-down vote without delay.
